AT A LUNCHEON CEREMONY
held on
Monday, February 28, 2007 at the Windsor Arms hotel in Toronto, author Rudy
Wiebe was named the winner of the 2007 Charles Taylor Prize for Literary
Non-Fiction for his book Of This Earth: Tales of a Mennonite Boyhood in
the Boreal Forest, published by Alfred E. Knopf Canada. Noreen Taylor,
chair of the Charles Taylor Foundation, presented Rudy Wiebe with a cheque
for $25,000 and a specially commissioned crystal award created by Cascade
Crystal of Toronto, incorporating graphics designed by Toronto graphic designer
Peter Enneson.
Prior to the winner announcement, each of the finalists
were greeted on stage by all three members of the jury and presented with
a leather-bound copy of their shortlisted book, created by Felton Bookbinding
of Georgetown, Ontario.
